Kiln Openings
Interested in seeing the magic that happens when opening the kiln? Please come join me! Recording my kiln openings has been a fun way to track my journey since I very first started.
Some openings reveal 'WOW' moments, but also pieces that didn't turn out as planned, capturing the highs and lows of my ceramic journey. I learn so much from both my successes and failures. It’s all there, the good, the bad, and the 'less successful'.
Just a heads up, when something great happens, you might catch me doing a little happy dance - I can't help it, it's just how I show my excitement! On the flip side, if I'm feeling disappointed or surprised, you'll definitely see it written all over my face - I wear my heart on my sleeve, after all. An insight into a potter’s world - I hope you enjoy sharing this journey with me, as it has been nothing short of magical for me.
Behind the Scenes – Studio Tour
I'm exceptionally lucky to have a home studio, which I get many messages asking to share my layout, the build, my organisation and processes within.
The evolution of my studio is in three parts (of which I'm sure there will be more) but if you’re interested to see the evolution.....
- Mid 2021 Where it all began
- Early 2024 Studio Tour
- Late 2024 Studio Expansion!!!
My Glaze making Journey
Jan 2024 Finally plucked up the courage to learn how to make my own glazes!
With so much valuable knowledge on the internet it can become very confusing to know where to start. After many weeks of binge watching, I decided that Joe at Old Forge Creations was the man to help clear my mind and help me start this journey.
If you want to follow my journey I will be tracking it on YouTube in real time, which may help others on a similar journey or there may be some people who have valuable advice they are willing to share,
Hope to have you along for the journey, Excited to get started!
Tutorials, Glazing Sessions & Potters Tips
Step by Step guides with hints and tips I've gained over my journey that I'm happy to share if it helps or gives inspiration. Always more than one way to do something, just sharing the Far Forest Ceramics way! Hope you enjoy!
Pottery 'Start to Finish'
If you like to see the whole process including the finished outcome - this is the playlist for you. Capturing the stages from Glazing, through to Firing, remedy re-glazing and then the final kiln opening...Pottery 'From Start to Finish'.
When 'Far Forest Ceramics' met 'Ceramics by Julia'
When an opportunity presents to meet virtually or in person with a fellow potter I'm there in a flash! This playlist follows the journey of the pieces made by Jeanette and Julia, through their creation, right through to the final finished pieces. Lots of behind-the-scenes chat between two potters and without doubt once of the most distressing kiln openings I've had to date. However, I did experiment with a new 'home-made bisque fix' recipe...which this playlist covers the make, the attempt to repair and the results. Definitely an emotional journey for me!
My Raku Journey
January 2024 brings in the start of my adventure with Raku.
With zero knowledge and the most amazing surprise Christmas gift of a Raku kiln (handmade by hubby secretly in the garage) my journey with Raku begins. My aim is to track my journey, mistakes and all for my own personal record, but hope it may be of use to others on the same journey.
With no knowledge of what clay to use, or glazes, or firing procedures there is so much to learn, but that's where the fun is in my opinion! It’s going to take time, but I promise to track all aspects of my journey, the good, the bad, the ugly and hopefully some successes along the way. Would love if you join me on this adventure.
Miniature Pottery
After receiving a new bat adaptor for my Hartley and Noble over the wheel bat system, I am now able to throw miniatures on my normal sized pottery wheel! How awesome is that? Never thrown miniatures before and excited to head down that rabbit hole. Follow this playlist if you want to join me on my journey of experimentation with miniatures.
Playing Clay with my Granddaughters
A magical beginning of many more crafty projects I'm sure we will enjoy together over the years.
Crafting with my young grandchildren brings me so much joy, but introducing them to my studio and playing with clay was so incredibly magical for me. Seeing their eyes light up with excitement, the way their little hands mould and shape the clay, leaving their fingerprints to treasure for years never fails to amaze me.It warms my heart to watch them experience the magic of watching their creations come to life through the process's especially a kiln opening with 'Nanna's oven'.
I am so grateful for the precious memories we are creating together as we explore the world of clay and crafting. Love you so much xxx

Pottery and the Cricut Maker
After the most awesome gift of a Cricut Maker 3 and accessories for my 'special' birthday I was eager to see how I can incorporate this into my Pottery and the studio.
I'm totally new to the Cricut machine but got oodles of ideas and inspiration how to incorporate this into my pottery.
